In Social Studies we have been studying the Native Americans and their history as it relates to Minnesota. This has lead to some great discussions about how we treat others and what is considered fair. We learned about what daily life was like for the Dakota Native Americans before the Europeans arrived. We compared their lives to our own. We ended this unit with a Native American art project in which each student had to pick a theme and all of the their Native American symbols had to relate to it.

Place Value Creations
We have been working on place value in 2nd grade. One of the tools we use to help us learn and practice this skill is place value blocks. Last week the students were able to build with the blocks and write down the 3 digit number their creation represented.

The Spirit of Giving
We had our holiday party on our final day before break. It was so sweet to see the students open their gifts and sincerely thank the giver. They were all so excited to share a present with a classmate! Check out the pictures to get a glimpse into the joy we had in those moments!
Piggie and Elephant Day!
On Monday before break we celebrated Piggie and Elephant Day in our classroom! We invited into our room preschoolers through first graders. Our talented trumpet player performed the book "Listen to My Trumpet" for these classes, and we also shared our own original Piggie and Elephant books. We topped off the day with a little Piggie and Elephant treat!
